We tell you the most beautiful dog beaches on the Baltic Sea

Hundestrände an der Ostsee

Find the perfect dog-friendly beach for you on the Baltic Sea. From natural beaches to excellent bathing beaches with beach chair rentals, we've compiled some of the highlights of dog-friendly beaches on the Baltic Sea.

Dog beaches on Rügen

Germany's largest island boasts some fantastic dog beaches that your four-legged friend will love. Rügen has more than 10 dog beaches for you and your canine companion to explore. In the popular resort town of Binz, you'll find two dog beaches where you can enjoy a wonderful day at the beach with your dog. There's the dog beach at the IFA Holiday Park , which has slightly coarser sand, and the finer sandy dog beach at Fischerstrand . Public restrooms are available at the dog beach at the IFA Holiday Park.

A little further north, you'll find another dog beach. This dog beach borders the fairytale forest and is, in our opinion, a hidden gem. Be prepared for a short hike, as reaching this dog-friendly beach requires a bit of a trek. The walk is well worth it, though, as the beach is unspoiled and perfect for relaxing.

Dog beaches in Boltenhagen

If you enjoy vacationing in Boltenhagen, you can also bring your dog. This small town on the Mecklenburg Baltic coast boasts two dog beaches. The first is located in the Tarnewitz district. Here, you can also rent beach chairs, providing some shade for you and your four-legged friend. The water is relatively shallow, allowing your dog to play comfortably. For added safety, you can bring a leash or life jacket .

The second dog beach in Boltenhagen is located between beach access point 1 and the Klützer Bach outlet . Both dog beaches have fine sand.

Dog beaches in Warnemünde

A dog beach in Warnemünde is located east of Hohe Düne beach, near the Taterhörn bus stop. A parking lot is within walking distance. It's the perfect place to enjoy a day at the beach with your four-legged friend.

Tip: Not far from the dog beach in Warnemünde is the Radelsee lake, around which you can take a relaxing walk. The Radelsee is located in a nature reserve where dogs are allowed.

Dog beaches in Travemünde

There's a dog beach at the Brodtener cliffs . The surrounding cliffs are perfect for a relaxing stroll. Access to the water at this dog beach is only via a jetty, so it's safest for your dog to stay out of the water and play on the beach. Bring along some dog toys to keep your furry friend entertained.

Dog beaches on Fehmarn

There are a total of four dog beaches on Fehmarn. At the shallow dog beach in Grüner Brink, you'll find a café and parking nearby. Here you can rent a beach chair to provide some shade for yourself and your four-legged friend.

Dogs must be kept on a leash at the dog beach in Meeschendorf . This dog beach is located right next to a campsite. A parking lot and snack bar are in the immediate vicinity.

Dog beaches in Niendorf

The dog beach in Niendorf is located near the harbor, next to the park "An der Acht". The water is shallow, making it a perfect swimming spot for your four-legged friend. Adjacent to the beach are a snack bar and public restrooms. From the promenade, you can take your dog for a walk to Timmendorf, or for those who enjoy longer walks, to Scharbeutz.

Dog beaches at Timmendorfer Strand

Upon arriving at Timmendorfer Strand, you'll find the dog beach just before the Ostsee Therme (Baltic Sea Spa). The water is shallow at this dog beach, allowing your four-legged friend to splash and play freely. You can rent a beach chair, provided you don't visit during peak season, as this can be more difficult then. A café and a restaurant are located nearby.

Dog beaches in Grömitz

The beautiful Baltic Sea resort of Grömitz boasts two dog beaches. Lensterstrand, located near the lock, is a natural beach, meaning it's untouched and unmaintained. Especially on stormy days, branches and roots may be scattered on the sand. Despite this, its natural beauty makes it a popular spot. Public restrooms and a restaurant are conveniently located nearby. Another dog beach is situated closer to the town center. The shallow entry into the water is perfect for playing. Several restaurants and cafes are also within easy reach.

We have marked all of the above-mentioned dog beaches on this map .

Practical travel bag for your day at the beach

To make your dog's day at the beach perfect, don't forget to pack a beach blanket for your four-legged friend. To carry him after a long day, you can bring a carrier bag. A travel bag combines a dog carrier and beach blanket in one. This saves space and is incredibly practical. Remember that, especially in bad weather or wind, you should dry your dog with a dog towel after he's been in the water.

Quick tip: Check locally about leash requirements at dog beaches, as these can vary from municipality to municipality.

Last but not least: Remember to pack the right gear to ensure your beach day with your dog is a complete success. Here's a short list of things you absolutely shouldn't forget:
